The move over law was designed to make pulling over on the side of the highway safer for the men and women who operate vehicles with those flashing lights, like policemen, firemen and other first responders. Many deaths have been associated with motorists who speed and hit these individuals while they work. According to Mason Dixon Rolling Research, 71% of drivers are unaware of this law.

The move over law requires that motorists slow down and change lanes when approaching a vehicle that is pulled over on the side of the road with their emergency lights activated. So many drivers see a vehicle with flashing emergency lights on and just carelessly drive right past it like it's just another vehicle that’s driving on the road, without any thought that someone may be on the outside of their vehicle helping the life of another. This neglect leads to many deaths and must be put to an end.
